In the garden of my life’s work, I carved a space for Karl Valentin in 2024. He taught us that logic is a fragile thing.
This sculpture does not stand perfectly straight, because life does not stand straight. It is an installation made of Istrian stone to weather and change, mirroring the 'uncomfortable' humor of a man who found the profound in the broken. It is my perspective on his silence.
"My pony is over the ....." It represents the human mind’s refusal to accept loss. Taking a piece of a root through my perspective it turned into the very thing I miss. It becomes the physical "anchor" for something that is no longer here. The gnarled wood standing in for a memory that has drifted away. 2024
